Google LSA vs Google Ads for Dallas contractors.

Two different products with similar names. Pick by job type, not by preference.

Local Services Ads sit above everything on the results page, carry the Google Guaranteed badge, and bill per lead. Google Ads sit below them, bill per click, and let you control exactly where the click lands. Contractors argue about which is better when the real question is which job you are buying.

For urgent work, Local Services Ads usually win. Somebody with a stopped drain or a dead air conditioner taps the first thing that looks screened and available. You pay per lead, wrong numbers and out of area calls can be disputed, and the screening process itself, license and insurance checks plus a background check, keeps the field smaller than open search bidding.

For considered work, Google Ads win. Replacement, remodel, install and financing searches deserve a landing page you built, with pricing ranges, photos and the offer stated in the same words as the search. Local Services Ads cannot do that. They send the caller to your profile and hope.

The catch with Local Services Ads is timing. Screening in Dallas can take a couple of weeks, sometimes longer if licensing documents need chasing, so a contractor who signs up in the first week of July has already missed the part of summer worth having. Start the process in the off season and treat both channels as one budget with two jobs.

The short version

  • Local Services Ads for urgent, screened, pay per lead work.
  • Google Ads when the landing page matters to the sale.
  • Start LSA screening weeks before your season, not during it.
