The recall system most optometry practices are missing.

The cheapest exams you will book this year are patients you already have.

Optometry has something unusual: a built in reason for every patient to return on a schedule. Most practices under use it, sending one email at twelve months and calling it recall.

A working system runs on three touches. A text at eleven months referencing their last exam date, an email a week later with online booking, and a phone call for patients who have not responded and who buy optical from you.

Text outperforms email here by a wide margin, and it also carries the practical details better. Confirmations, glasses ready notifications, and contact lens reorder reminders all belong on the same channel patients already answer.

Then measure it as a channel. Recall response rate, exams booked from recall, and how many of those patients bought optical. Compared against the cost of acquiring a new patient through paid search, the numbers usually end the debate about where next quarter's budget should go.

The short version

  • Three touches at eleven months, led by text.
  • Use the same channel for glasses ready and reorder messages.
  • Report recall as a channel with its own booked exam numbers.
